Country Homely & Traditional Wedding In Lilac Hues

Alex and Suzanna’s Knowle Manor wedding in Somerset was an absolute dream. Their day was filled with sentiment and heartfelt choices.

For example, the church they chose to marry in was the same one used for other family weddings and even can be seen from the family farm. Isn’t that just so lovely? Then there were the beautiful outfits, the gorgeous lilac colour scheme and the stunning flowers.

The confetti moment, first dance and sparkler exit all looked so magical too. Wildly In Love, I can’t thank you enough for sharing with us these stunning images of a really special celebration indeed.

Knowle Manor Wedding

The Proposal

I knew I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Suzanna from the moment I met her. We had been dating for three years, and I had been planning my proposal for months. I wanted it to be special, to take her to a place that was meaningful to her.

So, I asked her to take a walk with me at her family farm, where she had grown up. We strolled hand in hand, reminiscing about her childhood memories and the moments we had shared together. As we reached the top of a hill, we stood under an oak tree that overlooked the house where Suzanna grew up.

With my heart beating out of my chest, I got down on one knee and asked Suzanna to marry me. Tears filled her eyes as she said yes, and we hugged each other tightly.

We spent the rest of the day walking around the farm, taking in the sights and sounds of the place where Suzanna had grown up. It was a day we would never forget, and the start of a new chapter in our lives together.

The Vision

When Alex and I started planning our wedding, we knew we wanted something traditional that would bring all of our family and friends together. We found the perfect venue in Knowle Manor, which was just a stone’s throw away from my family farm in Somerset. We envisioned a beautiful ceremony at my family’s local church which you can see from our farm, followed by the reception at Knowle Manor.

I had always dreamed of a classic white wedding, with graceful floral arrangements and candles to create a romantic atmosphere. My dress was going to be flowing and elegant, with delicate lace and intricate beading, and Alex was going to look dashing in his navy-blue suit.

After the ceremony, we planned to have a delicious wedding breakfast in the conservatory of the Manor, with fine wine and exquisite cuisine. Our evening reception was to be held in the same room, complete with live music and dancing.

But our plans took an unexpected turn when we discovered that I was pregnant with our first child, just a few months before the wedding. As much as we were looking forward to our special day, starting our family was the most important thing to us. We knew we had to postpone the wedding until a later date.

It was hard to make the decision, but we knew it was for the best. Even though we had to put our wedding plans on hold, we were overjoyed to be starting a family together. We knew that whenever we eventually got married, it would be a beautiful and unforgettable occasion, surrounded by the love of our family and friends. In the end, we postponed until the same time the following year and all my dreams for my perfect wedding came true!

The Ceremony & Music

We wanted our wedding day to be special from start to finish, so we decided to treat our guests to a delicious cream tea while they waited for Suzanna to arrive at the church. We wanted everyone to be well-fed and ready to celebrate with us!

The church was the same church where Suzanna’s parents and grandparents had been married, so it felt like the perfect location for our special day. To cap it off, the weather was absolutely stunning, a perfect day on Exmoor!

The ceremony itself was traditional, with all the classic elements that we had always dreamed of. The church bells rang out to announce Suzanna’s arrival, and she walked down the aisle to the sound of the organ. We had chosen a mix of traditional and modern hymns that were meaningful to us, and it was so special to hear them being sung by our friends and family.

The priest who officiated our ceremony was warm and welcoming, and he helped to create a sense of joy and celebration that filled the church. We exchanged our vows and rings, and as we kissed for the first time as husband and wife, we felt like the luckiest people in the world. I’m not normally a nervous person, but the last half hour waiting for Suzanna’s arrival was one of the most nerve-wracking moments of my life!

As we left the church, the bell ringers played a joyful tune that echoed through the village. It was a moment that we’ll never forget, and we felt so grateful to have shared it with our loved ones. We knew that our wedding day was just beginning, but we couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful start.

Your Outfits

When I started looking for my wedding dress, I knew I wanted something special that would make me feel like a queen on my special day. I searched high and low, visiting various bridal boutiques, but nothing seemed to catch my eye. Then, a friend recommended that I visit Parham House in Dunster, and I knew I had to check it out.

The team at Parham House were amazing, helping me with every step of the process, from the fittings to the alterations. It was a lovely experience trying on various dresses with my mum and sister in tow, it was this experience that really brought home the fact that I was indeed getting married!

As I prepared for our wedding day, I knew I wanted to look my best for Suzanna. But when it came to choosing my suit, I wasn’t quite sure which direction to go in.

At first, I thought I would go for a more traditional morning suit, as it’s a classic choice for a wedding. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it might not be the right fit for me.

I wanted something that would reflect my personal style and make me feel confident and comfortable on the day. After some searching, I decided to go for a navy-blue suit instead. My tie colour was chosen for me by Suzanna to tie in (no pun intended!) with her bouquet ribbon and the colour palette of the wedding day.

The Styling & Decor

We wanted our wedding to feel personal and unique, so we decided to take on the challenge of decorating the church ourselves. With the help of our friends and family, we spent weeks preparing for the big day. We gathered flowers from local gardens and foraged greenery from the surrounding countryside, creating beautiful arrangements that were perfect for the rustic setting.

The morning of the wedding, we all gathered at the church to set up the decorations. It was hard work, but it was so rewarding to see everything come together. The space looked absolutely beautiful, and it felt so special to know that we had created it ourselves.

For the reception at Knowle Manor, we worked closely with the venue’s team to bring our vision to life. We wanted to create a warm and inviting atmosphere that felt like a big family gathering, and the team at Knowle Manor really helped us achieve that. They were attentive to our needs and made sure that every detail was taken care of, from the table settings to the lighting.

When we walked into the reception room, we were blown away by how beautiful it looked. The tables were adorned with fresh flowers, and the room had a warm glow with all the natural light that made everyone feel welcome. We were so happy with the outcome, and we knew that our guests were going to have an amazing time.

Your Photographer & Filmmaker

Patrick from Wildly In Love was an amazing photographer, and we feel so grateful to have had him capture our special day.

From the moment we met Patrick, we knew he was the right choice for us. He was calm, friendly, and incredibly professional, and we felt at ease with him right away. He took the time to get to know us and understand what we were looking for in our wedding photos.

On the day of our wedding, Patrick’s unobtrusive approach was exactly what we needed. He worked quietly in the background, capturing all the special moments without getting in the way. He had a real talent for finding the perfect angles and lighting, and the photos he took were truly breathtaking. We weren’t keen on the idea of having our photos taken, but Patrick’s approach is so laid back that we both ended up enjoying the process!

When we found out that we had to postpone our wedding due to my pregnancy, Patrick was incredibly helpful and understanding. He worked with us to reschedule the date and made, what was already a difficult decision, that much easier.

Throughout the whole process, Patrick was a pleasure to work with. He was always responsive to our questions and concerns, and he went above and beyond to make sure that we were happy with the final product. We were thrilled with the photos he took, and we will treasure them for years to come.

We would highly recommend Patrick from Wildly In Love to anyone looking for a wedding photographer. His calm, amicable, and unobtrusive approach is exactly what you want on your wedding day, and his talent for capturing beautiful moments is truly unmatched. We feel so lucky to have had him as our photographer, and we know that he will continue to create stunning photos for many more couples in the future.

The Honeymoon

Our honeymoon plans are something that we’re really looking forward to, but we know that it’s going to have to wait a little while longer. With our little girl being so young, we want to make sure that she’s old enough to travel with us and enjoy the experience!

In the meantime, we decided to take a mini-moon to the coast of Devon for a few days after the wedding. It was a chance for us to relax and spend some quality time together before returning to our busy lives. We found a lovely little cottage overlooking the sea, and it was the perfect place to unwind and reflect on our wedding day.

Memorable Moments

As the bride, one of the most special moments of the day was getting ready with my family and closest friends in the home that I was raised in. It felt incredibly nostalgic and comforting to be in such a familiar space, and I felt so grateful to be surrounded by my loved ones.

As for my husband Alex, one of his most memorable moments was seeing me in my wedding dress for the first time as I walked down the aisle with my father. We had decided to keep my dress a surprise, I will never forget the look on his face as he saw me for the first time. It was a truly magical moment.

Other memorable moments from the day include exchanging our vows in front of our family and friends, having our first dance as a married couple, and enjoying the delicious food and drinks with our loved ones at the reception.

Our photographer Patrick had also recommended that we take 15 minutes to hang out together during the sunset, partly for the amazing photos, but also to just reflect on the day so far and take a breather together, it was fantastic advice! Overall, it was a day filled with love, happiness, and so many unforgettable moments.

Advice For Other Couples

I would definitely advise other couples to prioritise open and honest communication throughout the planning process. It’s so important to make sure that both partners are on the same page and that everyone’s needs and preferences are being taken into account. Often the groom doesn’t get overly involved with the planning, but it’s important to share the burden and a bonding experience to be working together.

Additionally, I would suggest not getting too caught up in the little details and to remember what the day is truly about – celebrating your love and commitment to one another. It can be easy to get overwhelmed with decisions about decor, music, and food, but at the end of the day, what matters most is the love that you share.

Finally, don’t be afraid to ask for help! Whether it’s from family, friends, or even wedding vendors, there’s no shame in admitting that you need some support to make your day the best it can be. And most importantly, remember to have fun and enjoy the process! Planning a wedding can be stressful at times, but it’s also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create beautiful memories that you’ll treasure for years to come.

Oh wow! Such a special day.

Alex and Suzanna, thanks so much to you both for sharing your exquisite Knowle Manor wedding story with us.
