Stylish Sage Green & Gypsophila Fun Barn Wedding

Stylish Sage Green & Gypsophila Fun Barn Wedding

Welcome to Rob and Lauren’s super stylish Yorkshire barn wedding held at Wharfedale Grange in September. Their day was so beautiful, with gorgeous golden sunshine, countryside views and of course, the most stylish of outfits.

The flowers looked gorgeous, especially in the barns which were accentuated with sage green napkins, lighting, mirror signs and gypsophila. I adore the captures of their just-married moment, the confetti throw and the first dance. Just epic.

Thanks ever so much to Hayley Baxter Photography for sharing with us these tremendous images of such a special day in Yorkshire.

The Proposal

We’d literally just come out of lockdown on 12th April 2021, Rob and I had booked a little break to celebrate my birthday on the 13th with our dog.

On my birthday we decided to climb Whernside in the Yorkshire Dales. Rob was unusually quiet (he doesn’t waste words usually but, was acting very odd that morning). About 20 metres from the top of the mountain he said stop let’s look at the view and the next thing I knew he was down on one knee with a beautiful vintage-style engagement ring. He knew there might have been others right at the top and wanted it to be a quiet moment just us and the dog.

The Vision

We didn’t really have one until we chose our venue, Wharfedale Grange was the first one we looked at and just fell in love. We did go see one other but it just didn’t have the same vibe, we just knew WG was perfect for us. We wanted a chilled, fun day that was perfect for us and didn’t really take much notice of tradition.

Budget

Initially £30k, then we went over so we made it £35k. When the spreadsheet got to that number I stopped counting and thought sod it, do it once (hopefully) do it right!

The Venue

Wharfedale Grange – wedding venue of DREAMS. Amazing staff, great vibes and the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen.

Your Outfits

My dress was Bea by Madi Lane, I found it online about a month after I proposed and just couldn’t get it out of my head. Thankfully Scarlett Poppy (bridal store 10 mins from our house) managed to get me one to try on as it was a couple of seasons old.

I just knew it was the one the second I had it on. I did try other styles to make sure but, soon as I had that on I knew and, being comfy was so important to me – didn’t want to spend the day breathing in or uncomfortable.

Rob found his Ralph Lauren blazer online, he is NOT a suit wearer and so one night tentatively asked me if he could get married in his black skinny jeans – they looked cool with the jacket and a bow tie so I said yes!

The Styling & Decor

Table décor I did, refused to pay £2 per napkin to hire, then ordered some on the cheap and spent hours on end ironing them and using twine to tie up and add name tags. While in the end it was rewarding I’m not sure I’d recommend!

The venue didn’t need much styling, we got a ‘Dance’ sign for the dance floor and our flowers were done by the brilliant Charlotte at Boxwood Yorkshire. No real theme, the bridesmaids wore sage and I love gypsophila so I guess that ended up dominating but it was by accident really.

We ordered an order of the day vintage style mirror for the order of the day and had a really simple table plan, both random online purchases.

The Ceremony & Music

My now sister-in-law, the wonderful human who set us up a few years ago, kindly paid for us to have a string quartet for the day (and was then rather mortified when we requested rock music from them)! We’re not exactly traditional so we had Queen, Guns N Roses etc and I walked down the aisle with my Dad to Seal’s Kiss from a Rose, my Mum’s favourite song.

My sister did a reading called The Art of Marriage which we felt was perfect for us and it was lovely in front of WG’s fairy light wall (apart from the bit where the registrar forgot my name but, I saw the funny side)!

After seeing the registrar pre-ceremony and as the bridesmaids and flower girls were getting ready to walk down the aisle my Dad announced he ‘needed’ a gin and tonic which we downed just before he gave me away – not conventional but a memory I will treasure.

Your Photographer & Filmmaker

Hayley Baxter was our photographer, the second we got engaged my sister said ‘you HAVE to have Hayley’. We’d been lucky enough to meet Hayley at my sister’s wedding in the July and she was EASILY the best money we spent. Not only was Hayley like my 5th bridesmaid on the day. She kept me calm during the morning and my god the pictures were beyond our wildest dreams. I swear Hayley co-ordinated most of the day whilst snapping away and she absolutely stitched my Dad up for the dress reveal for the most gorgeous pictures and she got tears from him. Never happens and meant the world.

My best friend, Rachel Airey (@rachelelizabethfilms on insta) was one of my bridesmaids and did the videography for us as a wedding present.

The Honeymoon

Having booked our wedding during Covid we didn’t want to add the additional stress of potentially having cancelled or changed honeymoon plans so we went for a week in the Dales with the dog. It was BLISS to relax and even better, convinced hubby we needed another dog!

Memorable Moments

The reveal with my Dad, he’d known absolutely nothing beforehand and it was such a special moment. Going for walks with Hayley was fab, it’s such a busy, chaotic day when Hayley came at sunset and said we HAVE to go now it was so lovely to spend time together and the pictures came out insane!!! We also had a confetti cannon on our first dance which was so fun and the speeches were fab.

Advice For Other Couples

Just do you – take no mind of tradition (unless you want to)! Neither of us like cake really so we didn’t have one and no regrets at all.

Brides – get a dress you not only feel a princess in but also one that is comfy, it’s a long old day! And don’t get stressed in the morning, I was guilty of this and I regret it a bit.

Also, feed your guests well, we got double the recommended amount of canapes and our guests were actually chasing the poor waiters and waitresses around – absolute scavengers. Have a proper meal to soak up the booze rather than a posh one (we had massive burgers) otherwise your guests (and you) will end up absolutely hammered!

How very special. Wow.

Rob and Lauren thank you both ever so much for sharing your elegant and stylish Yorkshire barn wedding story with us.
